I’m not going to review Harry Potter. I’ve done Cursed Child, I may get around to Fantastic Beasts, but I don’t need to. You’ve already made your mind up about The Boy Who Lived. After all, Harry Potter has shaped a generation!
From personality sorting to discussions about the slave trade (#FreeDobby), J.K. had fans discussion them all. (Hufflepuff btw) and not only discussing, but teasing out the fine points. Not only are Hufflepuffs uncool (That’s for that one Hank Green) but extremely valuable and more worthy of the series than ever before. Ravenclaws are just smart, they value learning. They’d be more likely not to do their homework because they stayed up late reading about another interesting topic. Gryffindor isn’t the cool house Damnit!
I may have come to the party late, but my generation has been defined by Harry Potter. Being the first fandom thing since the internet gave us something that everything else lacked. Connectedness. NO longer were we waiting for out friends to like the series. We can now talk to someone halfway around the world who loved the series just as much as you! It brought about a connection that has only grown. And when we see hardship. when se see struggles, we don’t . shy away from it. We lock hands and we weather the storm like no one has before.
Now more than ever we are seeing millennials vote the same vote. With Brexit, with Clinton v Trump and even with the Australian election. Through the internet and through connection we are able to exchange ideas and become a united force to be reckoned with.
No, it’s not just a book.
Get Reading. Get Travelling.
